by Travis Bradbury Book review
When Royce Bruyere chose to be cryogenically frozen upon death, he figured coming back to life would be exciting. Neat. Bonus time. The world he awakes to is nothing of the sort.
A Chinese invasion has crippled the United States, dividing the country in a decade-long stalemate along the Mississippi. Royce’s successful reanimation is unprecedented, making him the Chinese regime’s most prized possession–but not for long. Eager to control life and death, the Chinese reanimate other “cryonics,” until something goes horribly wrong.
Royce travels through a future wrought with violence and despair, only to discover the cure for the disease lies within him. It’s a race against time as he flees the Chinese and the bloodthirsty victims of a terrifying epidemic in the hope of saving the country from apocalypse and creating a life worth living.
I couldn’t wait to read this book after seeing it on Goodreads listopia in the best zombie books. This is Travis’s first novel after writing many award winning books; Emotional Intelligence 2.0, and the cofounder of TalentSmart®.

This isfast paced zombie read, but its not like your average zombiefest; it has a brilliant unique twist which is such a refreshing change to many other zombie-esk reads.
I really related to Royce and thought his character had real depth and was well developed making him so believable and we were right there next to him as he started to discover what was happening; after beingcryongenically frozen; but quickly was thrown into chaos.
I enjoyed the short chapters enabling me to pick up the book atanytime and I read this in 2 sittings.
It was great being right there at the beginning of the zombie outbreak with Royce and Alex and I loved the extended plot of the future history of the world being dominated by the Chinese as a subplot.
The supporting characters were also well defined and made a real impactto the exciting storyline. Although Im gutted to have lost Alex….. 🙁
My only niggle was that the ending was a bit short, I would have loved to see more of what happened to Royce butIm so hoping its been left open for book 2.
I was lucky enough to receive a lovely signed paperback to read and what a refreshing change to read real paper, to make a valid point infavor of paperbacks; this particular paperback is a gorgeous larger book with glossy cover with excellent quality heavier paper enabling the pages to stay open while reading; perfect for me as a night owl to read at night.
A great read and would make a perfect gift for a zombie addict.
