4X3 digital Motion Pedometer by Ozeri Review

Its been several years since I used to carry a really simple pedometer around with me. My life has completely changed and Im probably not doing as much exercise as I should.

So when Ozeri kindly sent me one of their latest top of the range 4x3 digital motion pedometers, claiming it to be "The worlds most advanced Pedometer" to review; I was excited to have the opportunity to see how much my exercise routine has changed and to see how much I need to step things up a bit.

Packaging
My Ozeri pedometer arrived within a few days and extremely well packaged in bubble wrap despite being a small item.

The Pedometer comes in a transparent plastic box with inner cardboard showing the details of the product, its quick and easy to see how good this product will be.

In the box you get your sleek
  • Ozeri black pedometer,
  • Neck Strap,
  • Mini Phillips screwdriver,
  • Instruction leaflet.

Description
After already owning several cheapy pedometers over the years I was excited to try "The world most advanced pedometer" its quite a massive claim to make, but I really can see why.
Most of the pedometers you can buy...lets face it most of us would never pay alot for these unless you are a professional runner etc, so you will find many of the units are not very accurate and have to be placed vertically. With this new Ozeri 4x3 Tri-Axis technology it provides superior accuracy in any position, up, down, flat on its side, any angle.
What makes it even better is the accurate digital 3D acceleration sensor more advanced than in most pedometers.

  • Records steps, distance, speed, calories and time with the world's most advanced Tri-Axis technology.
  • 3 Recording Modes: Today, Split & Total -- with a split screen display for multi-data views.
  • New 3D Tri-Axis Sensor (X, Y, Z plane detection) provides superior accuracy in any position.
  • Counts up to 1 million steps with 7-Day Memory, and includes a built-in Clock, Calendar & Sports Timer and Auto Sleep Mode technology.
  • The option to read in miles/lbs or km/kg,
  • Used by professional athletes, the 4x3motion boasts an ultra slim design that fits in any pocket, and features a blue backlight for night viewing.
  • It will record up to a million steps...wow!
It filters out vibrations and can differentiate between a normal jog to sit down or stand up or a full step; and will only start to count when it detects continuous steps for greater accuracy.

The unit itself looks like a modern MP3 player in black ABS shiny plastic ontop....

and a grippy black rubberised texture on the back.

You are also supplied with a small phillips screw driver to change the LITHIUM CR2032 batteries when needed.

The 4 buttons are made of silver plastic and are easy to see and simple to use.

It looks fab hanging round your neck from the supplied 17inch lariat neck strap.

A neat idea is that you can simply unclip it from the neck and pop it back when you've finished with it by a simply squeeze clip.

Measurements
7.1 x 3 x 1.3cm,
Weighs only 27g.

Data ranges
Weight range; 20-150kg/40-350lb,
Stride range; 30-120cm/10-50inches.

Use
Im really impressed with this little pedometer as soon as you take it from the box it has a lovely substantial weight and quality feel, but the cheap silver buttons let it down a bit for me.
But its the innerds that count and the Ozeri 4x3 motion pedometer strengths are in its multiple various recording and tracking features. This little device will track your steps, distance taken, average speed, time and calories you've burned in whatever direction this little unit is facing, this is what makes it stand out. Plus record your results for up to 7 days for comparison.
Its not the smallest pedometer you can buy but it certainly looks fab and its still unobtrusive and people just assume its an MP3 player.

I personally found this is so easier to wear round your neck with excellent quality the satin lariat provided. Despite its larger style it only weighs 27gms.

In the past Ive had to clip my cheap units vertically or horizontally to my waist and never found them very accurate. With the Tri-Axis technology you can clip it anywhere and still get an accurate reading.

Even the 17inch Lanyard has been well designed with the option to wear round your neck or unclip and attach to a bag zip or belt.

The instructions themselves can look intimidating at first glance but are actually easy to pick up and thorough. When first setting up you simply input your weight, stride length, then date and time.

How to calculate your stride?
Ozeri advise you to calculate your stride measurements by walking 10 steps, measure the length and divide by 10 to get the average length.
eg; if your 10 steps measure 330inches, your average stride is 33 inches.

A brilliant feature of this is the split screen which allows you to set and view your choice of results at a glance. I really love this as I love to see how far Ive walked and the calories Ive burned without having to scroll through a variety of settings and buttons, its easy.

It also has a lovely bright blue backlight and will auto shut off until it feels you move again...what a clever little gadget...yes you are....!

There's nothing like seeing how far you've walked in a day and how many calories you've burned, its a real feel-good factor anyone will appreciate.

Opinion
A sophisticated modern looking design which looks and feels excellent quality. Everything you need for a more serious fitness enthusiast or athlete and for those that want something more accurate than your average pedometer.
The Tri-Axis technology is a BIG plus as I tried it round my neck with the lanyard and loose in my pocket and it still maintained correct steps. I counted my steps several times and when I checked saw the same amount on the unit; Im really impressed. I really loved this little pedometer, it looks good, its accurate and I really did feel motivated by the variety of different options.
For motivation I personally love to see how far Ive walked in miles...hopefully ;-) and how many calories Ive burned. An extra that I liked is the fact it also has a calendar and a clock which is really useful addition that others don't have.

This is the ideal gift for someone you know that is on a fitness drive its great to actually see exactly how many steps you take in a day and how many calories you've burned.
So if you know someone that is a bit dejected with fitness or has a New years resolution to get fit; buy this as a gift they will REALLY thank you for it; as its fantastic motivation to walk that bit further every day and a lovely looking compact little gadget. Its everything they will need to get them started.
Or go on....treat yourself and start the new year as you mean to go on.

Pro's

  • Satin unclippable neck strap,
