Oh my ...what an incredible read...where's the next book I have to read it now....!

I hadn't even heard of the Hunger Games till a week ago but I started this book on the Saturday morning and by teatime I had devoured this book like my favourite chocky bar. I have visitors coming tomorrow and have painting, housework, washing, cleaning and cooking which I have been completely oblivious too as I couldn't stop turning these pages. I tried several times to bookmark an end of a chapter to come back to it tonight but it was unsuccessful and I didn't even eat my breakfast till after 2pm...!

Did I like this book...can you tell I loved it, its one of the best books I have ever read ...yes I do mean this.

Katrisse and her family already struggle for food in the poverty laden age that they all live in within their district. But the Capitol or government remind the people of the "Dark Days", when they rebelled against the Capitol, by punishing not the adults but the children with this yearly event the Hunger Games. In an awful twist Katrisse is shocked to find her younger sister is chosen so she "Volunteers" to take her place unable to see her younger sister hurt or killed, she has spent all her life protecting her, making sure she had enough food and clothes helping her mother after the tragic death of her father.

24 children are thrown into an artificial environment to survive where 1 person leaves victorious and alive. But its not just the other "Tributes" they have to watch there are some added extras the Capitol have added to spice things up...like they don't have enough to worry about..
This is such an compelling read with believable engaging characters, we follow Katrisse through this harrowing, frightening experience and the cold hearted world she lives in. The fact teenagers are sent into a "game" to fight to the death in itself is inexcusable, who could even contemplate such cruelty, but Suzanne handles this fact extremely well and with much sensitivity as we really feel sorry for Katrisse and want to fight along side her as she is thrown into this death defying plot.

We turn the pages shocked at how a country can possibly think this is a game as their own country thinks up more and more cruel gruesome ways to kill the contestants off. if they didn't kill each other first. I love there is no sense or morbidity just a sense of good old fashioned survival and clever planning on Katrisses part, its great to see a heroine and not a woman in jeopardy, she's clever, bright and we can all relate to her as a kick ass teen.
I absolutely loved this book and am about to switch on my kindle and start to read the next book Catching Fire...er so I wont be getting any housework done today....eeek. I do however with all my ravings about this book I have to say I felt it was an abrupt ending which I feel was planned as I immediately bought the next book.

This is a brilliantly written fast moving fast paced twist at every turn book I loved it so much I highly recommended this book BUT warning - Dont read if you only have a a few hours you'll need the day.
